Welcome!
My name is Alexis and I am a positive reinforcement based dog trainer. I focus on helping my clients build a more harmonious life with their hounds. This includes helping resolve problematic behaviors around the house and refining manners while out in public spaces. Not sure what class is best for you? Please reach out!
My Story
My family got our first dog when I was just a teenager, a rescue pup named Moxxy. While Moxxy was very sweet, she had some undesirable behaviors. I took it upon myself to train my family`s new companion. I was excited to get started, and tried to learn from television, books, and blogs online. TV personality Caesar Milan was popular at this time. I took a balanced training approach, simply believing that`s what you are "supposed to" do.

A few years later, I started volunteering with animal shelters. I was exposed to Positive Reinforcement based training, and quickly realized how valuable it can be. I continued down this path and completed the Karen Pryor Shelter Training and Enrichment program. My passion for canine welfare has continued to grow from there.

As my knowledge grew, I started training basic manners and obedience classes to pet owners. I shifted from working directly with rescue dogs in a shelter environment, to teaching dog owners and advising them real time.

In 2022, I welcomed Pixel to my home. I knew right away I wanted to explore the world of dog sports. This adventure pushed my boundaries because I was training behaviors I had never trained before. I`ve been lucky enough to learn from several more experienced handlers along the way. In addition, I complete several courses directly from the AKC to further advance my knowledge and technical skills.

At this point in my career, I have worked with dogs from very diverse backgrounds in a variety of environments. Reflecting on my first dog Moxxy, I wish I knew then what I know now. But everyone has to start somewhere. It would be my pleasure to guide you on your very own training journey.
Why Positive Reinforcement?
Positive reinforcement dog training is a humane and effective way to teach your dog new behaviors. By rewarding good behavior, you can encourage your dog to repeat those actions in the future. This method allows us to build a strong bond and clear communication with our dog. With positive reinforcement, your dog can enjoy and actively participate in the learning process.

Positive reinforcement based training methods help your dog achieve long term behavioral change. When we take the time to teach out dogs appropriate behaviors, they are more likely to make good choices in the future.
